Sahitya Prakashana –
One of the leading and unique publishing houses in Kannada book culture – “Sahitya Prakashana” was started as a humble enterprise by Sri M.A Subramanya on October 12th, 1986 (Vijayadashami) at Hubli.
Carrying the baton from M. Ananthamurthy and M. Govindarao (Father and Father’s Brother), marching on the rich legacy left by them in Sahitya Bhandara (Est 1934) and creating his own in the journey, Sahitya Prakashana has carved the space for itself in the readers’ world.
Sahitya Prakashana first published “karigambali yalli midinaga” of Yandamoori Veerendranath. It was well accepted by the readers across the state and hence Sri Subramanya quickly grasped the interest among readers particularly for Fictional Novels, he soon began to publish translated works of Yandamoori Veerendranath, Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy, V S Khandekar and few other authors of Telugu and Marathi literature. At the same time, he gave a platform to Kannada popular novelists of that time like Sudarshan Desai, KT Gatti, and Vijay Sasanur by publishing their new thrillers. Both the experiments were well received by the readers and the publishing house started to grow in pace adding more books from varied authors by publishing books on Ayurveda, Home remedies, Short stories, Drama, Autobiographies, etc.

Further, in the mid-1990s and early 2000s Sri Subramanya could gauge the diminishing signs of demand for novels and long reads, he quickly shifted to publishing Self Help books by Yandamoori Veerendranath and B V Pattabhiram and took the publishing house to the next level. He gave a special platform to well-established authors/ poets of North Karnataka and published most of the works of Patil Puttappa, N K Kulkarni, Giraddi Govindaraj, V K Gokak, Rajashekar Bhoosnurmanth, R V Kattimani, Channaveer Kanavi, B A Sanadi, G S Amur, Srinivas Tophakane to name a few. Publishing firm has also published Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and Gulzar’s famous poems in Kannada.
A major breakthrough happened when Sri Subramanya started publishing books of Prof. K S Narayanacharya with “Acharya Chanakya” creating a new buzz among the industry and readers.
He also started publishing books of young journalists and columnists like Pratap Simha, Chaitanya Hegde, P Thyagaraj, Radhakrishna Bhadti, Vishweshwar Bhat, Shrivatsa Joshi, Santosh Thammaiah, Shivananda Kalave, G B Hareesh, and few others. He has also published unique autobiographies of Smt. Gangubhai Hangal, S J Nagalotimath, Vittal Venkatesh Kamat, Sudhir Nirgudkar, Harnahalli Ramaswamy, Parvathamma Rajkumar, and Captain Gopinath.

It has published books in a wide range of subjects like Self-help, Biographies and autobiographies, Environment, Ayurveda, Health and Home remedies, Science, Fiction, Indology, Historical Fiction, Drama, Travelogues, Columns, Critics, Music, Folk literature, etc.
Every book published by Sahitya Prakashana is unique in its own way. Further, each book has reached international standards.
